Off-Site Backup and Disaster Recovery FAQs
Are Standard Broadband's Off-site backups insured?
Yes, backup solutions are 100% insured.
How long will a backup take?
The initial backup always takes the longest, and can vary from minutes to hours to days, depending on the volume of data being backed up. However, after the first full backup, our server compares its file store with the files on your computer and backs up only those files that have been modified since the last backup, which minimizes bandwidth overhead. Transfer speeds of course depend on the speed of your Internet connection.
How does an off-site backup compare to traditional solutions?
Traditional solutions normally use a backup medium such as tape, zip disk, CD-RW or DVD-RW, the process typically requires that an employee manually change the tape or disk likely on a daily basis. Our online backup system bypasses this tedious process. Backups are 100% automated, and backup reports are sent by email daily. Should a backup fail to run or not complete properly our system will again automatically notify you so that corrective measures can be taken.
Another advantage that off-site backup solutions provide is protection against theft, fire or any other form of local system failure. You can retrieve individual files or complete backup sets from our easy to use web portal vs traditional solutions that require you to restore a complete backup to retrieve just one file.
What do I need to get setup?
All you need to do is install the off-site backup software on each computer or server that you wish to backup. Once installed our wizard will help you select the files and directories to backup. Once the schedule is configured your backups will run on a daily basis without any manual intervention required.
How do I restore my data?
Your data is available to you 365 days a year 24 hours a day using our customer web portal. Once you login to our web portal you will have instant access to all your files and backup sets. You may select one or multiple files online and our system will prepare a ZIP batch file for you to download. If multiple files exist you may also select the date of the backup that you would like to restore.
Do I need to purchase software or equipment?
You do not need to purchase any software or hardware we will provide you the software that you require.
What security and encryption does Standard Broadband employ?
Standard Broadband’s backup encrypts your data locally on your computer using a 128bit Triple DES encryption. Data is transferred between the client machine and our servers using a secure SSL connection. Your data remains encrypted when stored on our servers and is only accessible by your account. Internet Access Solutions employees cannot access your data or restore files without your login credentials.
What does Standard Broadband do to protect my data?
Our backup solution uses RAID5 to protect your data, we also operate two geographically diverse data centers that have real-time replication between them ensuring that your data is protected and always available to you.
Which platforms are supported?
Our software can be installed on any Windows 9X, XP, Vista and Windows 7 computer. We also support Windows Server versions 2000, 2003, 2008. Currently Linux and MAC OS are not available using our native client.
