July 18, 2022 – Update

Construction has gone well so far along Derry Road and our team will be completed from Bell School Line to Walker’s Line this week.  We have work at the Walker’s line intersection to complete and due to paving work also being done we have had to coordinate timing but the project remains on track.

This week our team will also be working on Walker’s line prepping the first 1000m of area from Derry Road heading south.  As required by Ontario Law we must locate other underground utilities first and expose them to prevent damage. You may see several holes along the road shoulder and grass areas these holes will be fenced and secured but we do ask that the public stay away from the work areas for everyone’s safety.

June 20, 2022 – Construction Begins!

Our construction contractor began work today on our Fibre To The Home network. They are currently working between Appleby Line and Walkers Line on Derry Road.

The trailer below contains a reel of what is known as duct, this is what we install in the ground to build the backbone of the network.  Our fibre optic cable is then placed in this duct.  Each reel contains 3km of duct.

Horizontal directional drilling is used to install the duct under the ground. This method of installation keeps the area much cleaner and safer over traditional methods such as open trenching. It does take some time to install.

If you have any questions specific to the physical construction of the network please contact our FTTH Construction Team who can be reached by email ftthconstruction@standardbroadband.ca or telephone at 1-866-304-9117.
